Interest Groups

The issue that I selected was guns. Guns are related to government and political beliefs because there is a lot of disagreement about gun laws. The right to bear arms is stated in our amendments, but there have been arguments between the right and the left weather or not allowing Americans to freely own guns. The two political interest groups have very different beliefs on gun laws in America. Interest groups that are more to the right have strongly believed in the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms while groups toward the left believe in stronger gun laws and more restrictions.

The first interest group is the National Rifle Association. The NRA advocates and defends the right to own a firearm. They also educate people about firearms and how to be safe with them. In this artifact, it is shown that their goal is all about protection. They advocate for guns so people can use it to defend themselves and others. The type of artifact The NRA used is a video. In this video, a woman is explaining her experience with a predator when she was in college. She then explains how she has children and a family and that her firearm will help protect her family. The video is using ethos to get people's attention. This woman is explaining her story of assault while serious toned music is playing in the background. This can make the audience have sympathy for the women and maybe some can relate to her story. People that have the same political belief would feel the same way about guns. They would feel like they need guns to protect themselves and family. People have a different political belief may not see guns only for protection but think that people will use guns to harm others on purposeBased on the information of this group and video The NRA identifies with conservatism. Conservatives believe in the 2nd amendment and advocate for people’s rights to bear arms. In this video there us no perspectives of people who disagree with the 2nd amendment or the opposite political party such as democrats. This makes it biased because we only see one perspective from one political belief.

The second interest group is The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence or the CSGV. Their main goal is to stop gun violence they what to do this by passing legislation. They also want to take down the NRA because they do not agree with what they are advocating for. The artifact that they used is a poster. The poster states that each day 105 people die from gun violence in the U.S. The background of the poster is a dark red color red. The article uses logistics to shoe the amount of violence that is caused by guns and how America is getting used to gun violence. This can show the audience the seriousness of violence that is caused by guns. They also use a deep dark red in the background that makes the number 105 stand out which shows how important that number is. Based on the information and ad of the CSGV it is evident that their beliefs are closer to the left. Their goal is to pass legislation that is against guns and put more restrictions on them.

Both groups care about people's safety and protection but they have different methods. The NRA believes that guns can protect people from violence while the CSGV believes that guns are more of a problem than a solution.
